The Age of Blogging: Public Journalism

Being that I plan on pursuing a career in the area of Journalism, the idea of writing down my ideas and posting them online for others to publically access was not as over-whelming as Mr. Lipton had said some people have found it in the past . Growing up in an age where communication through such technologies as the cell phone and computer has given the average joe access to the world at their fingertips. To me, this blogging business is no different than e-mailing a friend, or posting on facebook. In three easy steps I was able to set up my blog and be on my way. What I really like about making a blog is that it is like your very own personal space; something you can rearrange, personalize, and voice your own opinions on whatever comes to mind.

The idea of participatory journalism really excites me because I'll be able to get a taste of what it's like to actually write something I will get some feedback on from other students, (not to mention a mark out of it!). In the process, I learned that participatory journalism can practically be done by anyone. It's a way for members of society to express their ideas without having to be a published author. This way, I can sharpen up my writing skills with whatever topic is at hand. Some find writing a burden, well, I find it a way to get things off my chest; it's kind of like therapy to me. I've always liked sharing my written work with others so the idea of posting my thoughts and views on here doesn't really bother me all that much. It'll be interesting to see what types of responses I'll get. Moreover, it'll have me thinking about certain topics I haven't necessarily given much thought to in the past.
